LOOKING FOR WHERE AND WHEN GARRICK IS PERFORMING?
GO DIRECTLY TO EVENTS
Thanks to all who came out to see the show at the Little Fox November 9th. It was a great success all around. I love my band and, to those who attended, I hope you do too!
I've put up videos on YouTube.com from the show including my opening song, Son House's "John The Revelator" sung a capella as I was joined by the fantastic Leah Tysse and the rhythmic clapping hands of the audience. I have also added the vid of my performance of Robert Johnson's "Love In Vain". 18 year old Debraun Thomas joined me on stage to close my tradtional opening set before the band comes on for a passionate performance of "Maggot Brain" (Funkadelics) with me on acoustic versus his electric guitar! My hat is off to him and his budding ability! You can check out these vids and more by clicking here.
Accolades go to The Bartron Tyler Group for their smokin' opening set! Great guys! Great chemistry!
Look for us back at the Little Fox in early April for a special Birthday Show!

House Concert in Menlo Park
Saturday January 12 8pm
What is a House Concert? Someone donates their home for an intimate live performance by an artist. In this case it's me! Kate and Pete have offered their home for this upcoming performance to help in my raising of funds for my trip to the MIDEM Music Conference in France January 19-25.
Audiences love the format as it is very relaxed and entertaining with out having to make a big deal about going out. You will have the opportunity to hear my performance in a most raw and real way. I will play two sets and promise some surprises and fulfill expectations as I will share my passion with attendees. We will provide beverages and some munchies to keep good spirits going.
We are asking $15 at the door. Looking forward to seeing you!

Gator is the owner and chef of this great new restaurant which presents southern-style cooking minus the artery choking fat normally associated with the cuisine. The flavors, spices and aromas are there but the cholesterol isn't! Will soon be 100% ORGANIC.
Gator's restaurant concept calls for live music Thursday-Saturday nights and Sunday brunch with a Blues or Jazz foundation. Great Food! Reservations are recommended on weekends but the experience is worth the wait if you're a walk-in.
See you there!

MIDEM MUSIC CONFERENCE-January 19-25
Looking forward to the upcoming adventure of going to Cannes, France to help set the table for the achievement of one of my major life goals. MIDEM is a huge convergence of 10,000 music business people from over 90 countries from around the world looking to network or set up and close deals.
Interdependence-
It has always been apparent to me that we are connected with everything and everyone. You've heard the phrase "No Man Is An Island". To embrace this concept can create a life that flows with the positive energy we can all use for fulfillment, love and many of the experiences we face in our short lives. To practice "interdependence" is not to be confused with "dependence". One requires and perpetuates strength while the other promotes weakness. Most artists feel fulfillment when there is response to their offerings even though they know that what they have created makes them happy inside. The audience/performer relationship in my creative field allows a raising of good energy while on the other hand I tend to lose focus sitting around playing guitar when alone. Though I feel it necessary and good to not seek others to "fill my hole", it is the relationships in my life and career that help me to bounce off of, grow and create for a deeper purpose-one in which sharing ideas and ideals raises the bar I previously had no idea should or could aspire to.
I seek connection with people because of my appreciation in knowing that connection and communication raises a greater understanding and hopefully success toward self-knowledge, reaching goals, individual purpose and the pursuit of lifetime dreams. I also make no bones about it that I need people and an audience to generate career success but I also must give you a reason to care. I hope that my music in the present and the future as well as how I am approaching life and its inherent risks will spark and inspire you, as my audience, to live a "concious life well-lived". I feel it important to love yourself first and the results will hopefully be that, when given the opportunity, your love for others will shine brighter. The flow of good energy through working with others interdependently will yield a life of satisfaction, unlimited growth and, most importantly, love.-GD

THE MUSICAL CHILD
We all have memories of something that was “like magic” as a child. Mine came through music experiences such as listening to Peter and The Wolf when I was 3, playing piano and enjoying the doodling, playing string bass in the school orchestra, The Beatles Hard Days Night movie, The Ed Sullivan Show, hearing Hendrix for the first time, playing “records” and figuring out how to play guitar on my own.In my teens I developed a relationship with music that rivals “some” of the best sex I’ve had to this day based on physical and emotional pleasure. No matter what triumphs or defeats I experienced I always knew my guitar was waiting for me to beat or caress. To learn something more to do with. To create with. To cry with. To swagger with. To laugh with. To ignite that sparkle inside that spoke to me saying “everything’s going to be all right, just keep playing". As an adult and the things that are inherent in human-life-on-this-earth, such as love, bills, disappointments, grief, loss, change and growth I appreciate my abilities more than ever. It is my musical child that helps me laugh, make others smile and dance and most importantly PLAY! Through playing in and with life I stay in line with my truest self. As the smoke clears from the challenging recent past I stand strong with faith in an ability that, though I didn’t ask for it, still creates a sense of childlike magic for and within me. I hope that many of you share a desire to continue growth and perhaps find solace and can relate to my thinking that most of the time true growth requires some type of discomfort, emotional, financial, etc.. Yes, it’s possible and necessary as this attitude and the pursuit of being the best we can be raises the whole neighborhood. We can only control ourselves.
To Europe...
I have had some revelations about establishing a European presence that will be condusive to my overall goals. I am looking to establish European representation through my attendance at the MIDEM Conference so that I may get my into the the hearts and minds of the audience I'm seeking. I'll spare you the details but
stay tuned for updates!
Some Thoughts That Help Me Keep Moving Forward...
"Success is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm."- Winston Churchill
"What sunshine is to flowers, Dreams are to life."- Emily Dickinson
"But there is nothing half so sweet as young love's dream."-Thomas Moore
"The human mind is a miracle. Once it accepts a new idea or learns a new fact, it stretches forever and never goes back to its original dimension. It is limitless."-Leo Buscaglia
"Should you meet resistance, take comfort-it's a great way to build muscle."-Beth Mende Conny
"What we ponder and what we think about sets the course of our life.
Any day we wish; we can discipline ourselves to change it all.
Any day we wish, we can open the book that will open our mind to new knowledge.
Any day we wish, we can start a new activity.
Any day we wish, we can start the process of life change.
We can do it immediately, or next week, or next month, or next year.
We can also do nothing.
We can pretend rather than perform.
And if the idea of having to change ourselves makes us
uncomfortable, we can remain as we are.
We can choose rest over labor, entertainment over education, delusion over truth,
and doubt over confidence.
The choices are ours to make.
But while we curse the effect, we continue to nourish the cause.
As Shakespeare uniquely observed, 'The fault is not in the stars, but in ourselves.'
We created our circumstances by our past choices.
We have both the ability and the responsibility to make better choices beginning today." - Jim Rohn
The Definition of Success
To laugh often and much-
To win respect of intelligent people and the affection of children-
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends-
To appreciate beauty-
To find beauty in others-
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redemmed social condition-
To know even one life has breathed easier because you lived-
THIS IS TO HAVE SUCCEEDED. - Ralph Waldo Emerson
"I bargained with life for a penny,
And life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening,
When I counted my scanty store.
For life is just an employer,
He gives you what you ask,
But once you set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.
I worked for a menials hire,
Only to learn, dismayed,
That any wage I asked of life,
It surely would have payed." - excerpt from "Think & Grow Rich"(Napoleon Hill)
“Before you can do something, you first must be something” –Goethe
